Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Pulse is a social app for discovering people nearby through the music they're playing. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Pulse ("we", "us") runs the Pulse app. You can reach us at pulsesocialmusic@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, username and password (the password is stored encrypted by our hosting provider; we never see it).
- Profile: the name, photo, bio, links, voice bio, concerts and playlists you add.
- Location: your device's location, when you allow it. It is used to show the map around you and — only while "Make me discoverable" is on — to show you to other people. If you choose "Approximate", only a location 0.5–1.5 km away from your real one is shared. While Pulse is open in the background (shown by the "Pulse is live" notification) your location keeps being shared at most every 30 seconds; it stops when you close Pulse, tap "Go offline", or after 10 minutes without music.
- Music activity: the song you're playing (title, artist, album, cover picture) and, unless you turn off "Recently played" in Settings → Privacy, your last songs from the past 24 hours. On Android this is read through "Notification access", which you grant yourself in the phone's settings; Pulse only reads what is playing and does not read, store or share the content of your other notifications. If you connect a Spotify account, we read your currently playing track, recently played tracks and top artists from Spotify.
- What you create and send: chat messages, photos, voice messages, GIFs and stickers you send, stories, story comments and likes, song pins, parties and their chats, reactions, friend requests.
- Safety: people you block, reports you file (including the recent messages of the reported chat, or the reported story, comment or pin).
- Support: messages you send us through Help & Support, and the email address you give us there.
- Technical: basic device and connection information needed to run the app (for example app version and error messages). We don't use advertising IDs and we don't show ads.
How we use it
- To run Pulse: show the map and the people, songs, pins and parties near you; deliver messages; show stories; find matching songs ("sync moments").
- To keep Pulse safe: review reports, enforce our Terms of Use, prevent abuse and spam.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to fix bugs.
- We do not sell your personal information and we don't use it for advertising.
Who can see what
- Other people see your name, photo, username and current song when they find you on the map or open your profile. Your profile page shows what you added to it.
- Your location is only shown while you're discoverable — to everyone nearby or to your friends only, precise or approximate, as you choose. People far away only see a rough area.
- Messages are only visible to the people in that chat. Stories are visible to you and your friends and disappear after 24 hours.
- So chats open instantly, Pulse keeps a copy of your recent messages and of the chat photos and videos you have seen on your own phone. This copy is removed when you log out or delete your account.
- Song pins can be seen by people who walk within about 100 m of them.
Services we use
- Supabase — hosts our database, accounts, files and live connections.
- OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap — map tiles (they receive the map area you're viewing, not who you are).
- Deezer and Apple iTunes Search — to look up song cover pictures and 30-second song previews you add to stories and photos (they receive what you search for; previews stream from their servers).
- Spotify — only if you connect your Spotify account or play music in the Spotify app.
- KLIPY — GIF and sticker search (they receive what you search for).
- Netlify — hosts our website and delivers the messages you send through Help & Support to our email.
- FormSubmit — delivers account-deletion requests sent from our website (and is a backup for Help & Support messages).
- These providers process data for us under their own privacy policies and security measures. Data may be processed in countries other than yours.
How long we keep it
- Stories: 24 hours. Ended parties: deleted with their chat and photos. Your recently played songs: 24 hours.
- Everything else in your account is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
- Reports and records of blocks may be kept for up to 12 months after an account is deleted, to protect other users and handle abuse.
Your choices and rights
- Turn discoverability, precise location, "Recently played" and notifications on or off at any time in the app and in Settings.
- Edit or remove your profile information at any time.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, messages, stories, pins, parties, photos and voice messages. You can also ask us by email.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or limit how it's used. Email pulsesocialmusic@gmail.com and we'll answer within 30 days.
Children
Pulse is only for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we delete it.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and access is limited by account-level rules in our database. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us about any problem you notice.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
